The mouths match

Each shot can be retimed to its own line, so a character stops miming while somebody else's voice plays.

Fixes:

  • Takes longer than ten seconds say so instead of failing at the provider. Shots are now generated long enough to hold their own dialogue, which means a wordy line can produce a take longer than matching can accept — the panel names how many rather than letting the attempt fail.

Added:

  • A shot can have its mouth matched to its line. Until now the voice was laid beside the picture and the two never agreed — the character moved their lips to nothing in particular while the track played over the top, which reads as bad dubbing whatever the language. Shoot, voice, then match: the take comes back with the mouth doing what the line says.
  • The original take is kept. Matching produces a second clip rather than replacing the first, so a result you dislike is dropped rather than re-shot — and a shot that cost four attempts to get right cannot be spent twice.

Changed:

  • Assembly uses the matched take when there is one and the original when there is not, so a film with no matching cuts exactly as it did before.
